About

profile pictureThank you for stopping by and/or following this blog. Although the challenge to be self-sustaining and garden year-round is fairly new to me, the concept of being a steward of the land and keeping my carbon footprint small has been a focus for me for most of my life (even though we didn’t call it by that name years ago).

I grew up overseas, moving around from country to country (base to base) as a child and as an adult. But everywhere I lived, I appreciated the lay of the land; the various common and exotic trees; the shining seas and untamed shores; the rainbows and seasonal storms; and, I guess, the people, their crafts, and cuisines (smiles)!

It was later in life that I was finally able to settle down and purchase land in a state that I never knew, let alone called home, until I moved here. I found gently rolling land on a bit of a plateau. The home we built was set on a slight rise, with acres stretching out behind us.  The perfect place for horses, llamas, and sheep. All wonderful additions to the family; and, all pets.

So, even though year-round gardening will be a new challenge to me, watching for changes in the weather, amending soil for better crops, and dealing with both the gentle ways and harsh wrath that Mother Nature will throw my way is very familiar.

Whether you are a seasoned gardener, an animal lover, or just a curious reader, I hope you’ll drop by frequently to see the latest that I’ve been up to this year!

All the best, ~Pat
